The Adult Education Center offers many services, including GED preparation, basic skill instruction, and more. Enrollment begins by attending a mandatory Registration & Assessment session at one of our three sites: Hutchinson, Newton, or McPherson. Fill out this registration form to reserve your spot.
During registration, you will complete the required paperwork and the Test of Adult Basic Education, which measures students' academic strengths and weaknesses. Also, our instructors will answer your initial questions and then test you in core academic areas to determine class placement. Here are some tips for taking TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education).
The Adult Education Center begins new class sessions approximately every 8-9 weeks. See our homepage for upcoming class dates and registration dates.
The process for new students:
1. Decide that you are serious about increasing your skills in Reading, Math, & Writing.
2. Sign up for a mandatory registration & assessment by calling the office at 620-665-8004 or clicking on the Register Here link on our webpage to complete it online.
3. Attend the selected Registration & Assessment session. You will complete the required paperwork, be introduced to our program, pay your materials fee, and then be assessed to determine a baseline of your skills in Reading, Math, and Language using the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE).
4. Attend mandatory Orientation sessions in the first week of class. Attendance is required. Failure to attend will result in a forfeiture of your fee and will require you to begin classes after attending orientation in the next session.
5. Meet with your instructors one-on-one to go over test scores and develop an individual learning plan.
6. Begin class and build your skills to reach your goals!
The program provides trained staff to work with students in small classes, individualized instruction, and/or computer-aided instruction. Each student will have an individualized learning plan. A Transition Coach is also on staff to assist students with goal setting, workplace skills, planning for additional education, and life skills.
All students will pay a materials fee which will cover the cost of all materials used in the classroom. Our current materials fee is $50 annually cash or check.
